Carbon Tax proposed to have little impact on incomes

Australia's planned carbon tax will cut personal incomes by just 0.1 per cent a year until 2050, according to new figures released by the Australian Federal Government.

Modelling from the Treasury of the proposed A$23-a-tonne levy showed almost no deviation from previously released estimates of A$20 per tonne.

Treasurer Wayne Swan insisted yesterday that all the government's research showed that the scheme will have a negligible impact on the economy, while also driving investment in clean technologies.
